I can tell you I did not do the ‘pillow’ type bags that Teesha does. Instead I used a layer of batting and created a mini quilt block. Every block is embellished with one or more of the following : swirl embroidery pattern, embroidery pattern, beads, silver thread, actual items (key, pins, buttons, etc).

1. The front (above). The following blocks are embroidered with UrbanThreads patterns. N, Er, Dy, the butterfly, & the Caffeine molecular structure.

2. The back. See my craft ducky? I love UrbanThreads! The voodoo man and skeleton key are also from them.

3. A closeup of the fabric bead ‘doodad’ I threw on there for variety. This is also the only image that shows the strap. I machine stitched the strap ‘quilting’ and then closed it to match the bag itself. The strap also matches the bottom of the bag which I didn’t photo at all. The strap and bottom fabric are from a pair of fire retardant overalls that Mark no longer wears. Always a recycled element somewhere in my work!

4. Again the only image I have of this area too, this is how both side panels look. Only one side has the dangling initials. My friend laid claim to this bag before I finished the second panel. So while shopping Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, we found two keychains and I took them apart in order to attach them to the bag.

This bag was really fun to make and I’m already working on my next. The smaller pieces are great for our travels and we travel ALOT.. I love working on something while we’re driving and this style project is the key to keeping mama happy.
